Students Project

We have proposed 'Students Project' as one of the events in Inter School Competition. We will invite a group of 5 students (from 6th to 12th Std) from each school. We need to give them a list of topics and ask them to chose a topic and do a project (analysis, survey, etc) on the topic chosen. The team will submit their project to the panelists during the Inter School Competition. I suggest to use the same topics chosen by our students for National Science Project on the core theme 'Energy'. What do you say?

I guess we can go with the same topic - 'Energy'. Also i guess we can reuse the titles which are decided for the science project by the chennai team. In addition to the below mentioned topics we can also give the freedom to the children to come up with their own project under 'Energy'. Please find below the rules and regulation for the Student's project event. This is a draft version.

1. The children must be between the age group of 10 to 17 yrs.
2. A group of 3 to 5 children can form a team.
3. Each school can submit only one project.
4. The project report must contain a maximum of 2500 words.(this is based on the science congress rules. But i feel its not necessary to restrict the word count. But we can tell them that the report must contain a minimum of 100 words)
5. The project must relate to some of their locality problems.
6. The expenditure of the student project should not exceed Rs.250(this is based on the science congress rules. We can change this rule. But we should surely have some rule to make sure that our children do not spend too much on the science project).
7. Once they receive the invitation letter from us the school must submit the project title within one week's time. The school guide must call our PRO and inform the topic and the team size.
8. The team must prepare two copies of the report. One copy of the report must be submitted to us when they come for the competition.

Rules are good, short and crisp. Are we defining (as defined in Students National Science Congress) any eligibility criteria for the project guide? Or are we assuming that one of the teachers (assigned by the HM) in the school will be the guide? We need to be clear on this.

As per Student National Congress any person who has completed his/her 12th std can be the project guide. But since we are trying something new for these kids and also without much of our assistance it will be good to have the school teacher as the guide. We can propose the school that they can nominate one school teacher(i think they will nominate the science teacher) for this event.

The guide can be provided our contact number. Though we explain about the student's project event in our invitation they will get several doubts in the middle of preparation. So this guide can contact us any time in the middle of the preparation. Considering all this i feel it will be best to have the school teacher as the guide.

One more rule which is part of the National Congress team is that the team must be writing a daily progress sheet on their project. They need to record the daily activities which they are performing for the project. This is much similiar to our "Naan Dhinamum Padikaren" Card. I intentionally dropped this rule as it might be a burden for the first time. Please let me know if you feel this needs to be added.

The condition on the project report contents size can be defined as "The report should have a minimum of 250 words and there is no maximum limit."

The project team should be guided by a teacher. The details about the project title, project team and guide name & contact number should be communicated to Vazhai within a week after receiving the invitation.

All other rules are good to include.

• தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்ட தலைப்பின் கீழ் உள்ள குழுவில் மூன்று முதல் ஐந்து மாணவர்கள் இடம்பெறலாம் மற்றும் குழுவிற்கு ஒரு ஆசரியர் வழிகாட்டியாக இருக்க வேண்டும்.
• ஒரு பள்ளி ஒரே ஒரு திட்டபணியை மட்டும் சமர்பிக்க வேண்டும்..
• திட்டப்பணி அறிக்கை 250 வார்த்தைகளுக்கு குறையாமல் இருக்க வேண்டும், அதிகபச்ச வரம்பு ஏதும் இல்லை.

• தேர்வு செய்த தலைப்பு மற்றும் பங்குபெறும் மாணவர்களின் விவரத்தை 15-10-2012 தேதிக்குள் தெரிவிக்க வேண்டும்.
• ஆய்வறிக்கை இரண்டு நகல் உருவாக்க வேண்டும் அதில் ஒன்றை போட்டிக்கான நாள் அன்று காலை நடுவர் குழுவிடம் சமர்பிக்க வேண்டும்.

The final version of the topics, rules are very clear. There are few suggestions given during the conf call yesterday. I'm listing down those suggestions here for reference and to record.

1. We can use the word ஆய்வு in place of திட்டப்பணி, for e.g. அறிவியல் ஆய்வு
2. The due date to choose the topic and inform it along with the students & guide names might change depending on the event date. A gap of minimum 30 days will be assured.
3. The communication (for the above statement) could be through email (we need to mention a specific email ID in our invitation for this competition) or phone or post.

Please derive the evaluation parameters and post it in the forum.

அறிவியல் திட்டபணிக்கான விதிமுறைகள் பின்வருவன :
• ஆறாம் வகுப்பு முதல் பனிரெண்டாம் வகுப்பு வரையுள்ள (பத்து முதல் பதினேழு வயதுடைய ) மாணவர்கள் பங்குபெறலாம்
